SKIN CANCER MEDICINE
At the Graceville Skin Cancer Clinic, Dr Norval and Dr Tang provide thorough and compassionate skin cancer care. Your consultation begins with a detailed medical history, where our doctors take the time to listen to your specific concerns.
Following this, you’ll receive a comprehensive full-body skin examination using advanced diagnostic tools to identify any potential skin cancers or concerning lesions. The findings will be discussed with you directly, and if any further investigations or treatments are required, your doctor will clearly explain the next steps. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and fully understand your results and treatment plan.
Why Early Detection Matters
For most cancers, early detection significantly improves the chances of successful treatment. While cancers such as breast and bowel have national screening programs, skin cancer relies on personal vigilance and professional skin checks.
Understanding what is normal for your skin—and promptly reporting any changes to a qualified GP in Skin Cancer Medicine—is vital. At Graceville Skin Cancer Clinic, Dr Norval and Dr Tang are experienced in diagnosing and treating all types of skin cancers. Their goal is to ensure you receive early detection, clear communication, and the highest standard of care.

MoleMax HD Machine
SKIN CANCER DETECTION
At Graceville Skin Cancer Clinic, we offer the latest advancements in skin cancer examination and screening, including Digital Mole Mapping.
This advanced technology is made possible through our state-of-the-art MoleMax HD system, which captures highly detailed images of your skin and allows for ongoing monitoring over time. This supports the early detection of skin changes, providing greater peace of mind and enabling more accurate, proactive care.
The MoleMax system allows our doctors to examine structures beneath the surface of the skin (up to 2mm deep) using specialised light technology. It also securely stores images, allowing us to track and compare changes in moles and lesions over time, which is essential for early identification of any concerns.
With high magnification (up to 40x) and advanced imaging capabilities, this technology helps identify early warning signs of skin cancer, including melanoma, at its earliest stages. This reduces uncertainty and supports more informed clinical decisions, often helping to minimise unnecessary biopsies or excisions.
At Graceville Skin Cancer Clinic, we are committed to using advanced technology alongside clinical expertise to provide accurate, thorough, and patient-centred skin care.

BIOPSIES AND EXCISIONS TO DIAGNOSE SKIN CANCERS
Biopsies will be offered at your Skin Check appointment to confirm the presence of skin cancer. Small biopsies are often taken to confirm non-melanoma skin cancers whereas larger excisional biopsies are often taken to confirm melanoma skin cancers.

DEFINITIVE TREATMENT OF MELANOMA AND NON MELANOMA SKIN CANCERS
Once a diagnosis is confirmed, a definitive treatment plan will be discussed with you. A range of surgical and non-surgical treatments are available at our clinic. We also have very well established relationships with The Melanoma Clinic and the PA Hospital as well as other other specialists such as Plastic Surgeons and Oncologists. This is only necessary in the rare event of diagnosing Advanced Metastatic Melanoma in patients that we are unable to manage in house. In this rare case all referrals and pathways will be provided to you. Fortunately we find almost all skin cancers are successfully treated at our clinic without the need for referral to another specialist centres.

DEFINITIVE TREATMENT OF PRE-CANCEROUS LESIONS
Dr Norval and Dr Tang specialise in the early detection and management of skin cancers. Precancerous skin lesions are very common within the Australian population but are generally easy to treat when identified early.
Treatment options for skin cancers and precancerous lesions will vary depending on the size, type, depth, and location of each lesion. In many cases, small skin cancers confined to the surface of the skin may not require treatment beyond an initial skin biopsy, which can remove the entire growth.

PREVENTIVE TREATMENTS
These treatments may include prescription medications, which our doctors can prescribe and carefully explain how to use correctly. Follow-up appointments will be arranged to monitor your progress and ensure the prescribed medications are effective and well-tolerated. The suitability of each treatment option will be discussed with you once a diagnosis has been established, ensuring you receive a personalised and evidence-based care plan.

SKIN CANCER EDUCATION
Please feel free to discuss any questions you may have regarding skin cancer during your consultation. We also have a range of education materials that are available for you to take home with you after your consultation and treatment.

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS AND DERMAL FILLERS
Dr Norval holds a Certificate in Cosmetic Medicine and has over 12 years of experience in administering anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.
At present, this service is temporarily unavailable due to Dr Norval’s current clinical commitments, as he is booked several months in advance for skin cancer checks.
